Get ready for a full calendar & social circle

Clear your schedule

There is always something going on. From around your community like kid’s sports fixtures to Christmas carnivals, to legendary large-scale events like the Birdsville Races, Bedourie Camel Races, Opera Queensland productions or the Vision Splendid Film Festival.

As tourism season ramps up between April to September, so do our events calendars across the region.

Or check out the Outback Queensland events calendar along with some great ideas for travel itineraries.

You never know who you’ll meet

Throw out your ideas of who lives in the outback. People from all walks of life call the region home, whether by birth or by moving here. People hail from across the globe, bring diverse life experience and backgrounds.

When you move here, we want you to feel at home, and of course we want you to stay. Locals are always keen to share information and help out when you ask.

Don’t know anyone, not for long!

We’re a friendly bunch and always ready to welcome new people. In addition to regular events, each year many of our communities host ‘Meet and Greets’ at places like the local RSL, or bowls club to kick off the new year. This is a great chance to meet new people and also show off your experience to newbies in the following years.

There’s also a lot of young people and the chance to create new social circles. Of all the people who moved into the region, those in the 25-29 years age bracket made up the largest group, followed by the 20-24 age bracket.

“I was really surprised by how many young people there are, it’s not what I expected at all.”

FarOut! You’re going to need a bigger calendar
