Keep doing the things you love and have time for even more

Retail therapy

While there might be a service gap or a quiet spot in the events calendar in your town, there’s always something up the road. Larger centres like Longreach, Barcaldine, Blackall and Winton offer all of life’s essentials and more, and are often the central point in their areas for smaller communities.

Living in the Central West, you’ll soon get to know where the things you like are and get used to hopping in the car for some things and the longer distances. You’ll probably spend less time in the car for a straight, traffic-free drive to the next town, compared to travelling across Brisbane.

“Even living in a smaller place, we manage to find what we need, have things delivered where we can, or save it up for when we next go to town.”

Personal pit crew

On the personal front, across our towns there’s an array of clothes and gift shops, hairdressers, beauty therapists, nail technicians, natural therapists such as reflexology and naturopathy.

Visiting beauty and health professionals also advertise in advance for bookings.

It goes without saying the central west is blessed with amazing natural beauty. There’s lots of time to get out hiking, camping, motorbike riding and four-wheel-driving. Fancy a fish? There are plenty of easily accessible places to wet a line, no crocs out here. Plus there’s kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, swimming and rowing in our rivers, waterholes, and lakes. Get your camera ready, for wildlife, sunsets and starry skies that go on and on.

Prefer to stay closer to home. Check out or public pools and parks perfect for picnics, gardens and yes, green grass.

Local tip

Make a plan – Check out the region’s growing events list, natural wonders and tourism hotspots. Keep an eye on flight deals and opportunities for group road trips. Invite friends and rellies to experience a real taste of the outback, lined up with an event or just enjoy getting out in the wide-open spaces and capture that vision splendid.
